Succumbs to a fever while taking a trip through the south
Robert Nance and his mother returned Tuesday from Decatur, Ala., and their home-coming was one of great sorrow for they left their father, and husband, D.C. Nance to sleep the sleep of the just under a souther sun at the above-named place. They were joined at Cincinnati by Harvey Nance, who has been staying for nearing a year at Washigton, , C.H.,Ohio. Daniel Calvin was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, May 29, 1839, died at Decatur, Ala., May 16, 1899, aged nearly 60 years. He was married in Jackson County, Ohio, 1859 and came to Van Wert county some 16 years ago. Decease was a member of theTwenty-Seventh Ohio volunteers during the Civil War, and has an honorable records as a soldier. About two years ago he was severely injured in a runaway near Convoy, from the effects of which he never fully recovered. Last March he and his wife left for a trip through the south to be absent a year, hopig to regain his health and strength. On the 1st of May he took to his bed with a fever that ended in death. His son, Robert, arrived at his bedside only a few hours before the final hour but the sick man recognized him, being conscious to the last. Funeral services were held on Wednesday from the home of a relative where they were visiting. He leaves a widow and five sons to mourn their great loss. For several year the residence of the deceased was in Pleasant township, but in February, 1898, he purchased a home on the Ridge road, one and one-quarter miles east of Convoy, where the bereave family will cotinue to reside. 26 May 1899
